What could be a more picturesque African safari than the sight of stately elephants parading before mighty Mt. Kilimanjaro? The famous snow-capped peak frames the horizon of Amboseli National Park, known to be the best place to view the noble big-tusked creatures. The herds are so dense here that you are guaranteed to see them as they march family-style to their watering holes.
For 3 days you’ll adventure through this popular park, soaking up its iconic vistas and rich variety of wildlife – 4 of Africa’s “Big Five” roam its plains. Plus, the vibrant marshes here are home to buffalo, hippo, and a colorful array of waterfowl like pelican and Egyptian goose.
And if you wish to round out your safari, we can arrange a cultural encounter with the indigenous Maasai people with a visit to their nearby village.
What’s Cool about Amboseli?
Amboseli is not large but this just makes the wildlife easier to spot through the park’s light vegetation. In addition to the elephants, visitors have spotted lion, leopard, cheetah, zebra, and gazelle.
The park’s Observation Hill is aptly named and from its summit, you’ll get great views of the area, especially the marshes with their numerous elephant visitors.

3 Day Amboseli National Park Safari Itinerary
Day 1
Nairobi - Amboseli National Park
265km, approx. 4hrs
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
7:30 am Your driver/guide will pick you up for the easy road trip to the park. Hop into your private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep and we’ll begin our adventure on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
You’ll be passing homesteads and fields. Keep an eye out for the Maasai herders in their bright shuka wraps.
In time, you’ll see the iconic peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro slowly rising in the distance, our beacon to Amboseli Park. We should arrive in the late morning and have lunch at your safari lodge or tented camp.
Mt. Kilimanjaro dominates the park’s southern vista with its 19,000 ft. peak. During your time here at the park, the mountain’s lofty form will be an amazing backdrop for your photos.
We’ll head out on our first game drive, the first of many over your 3-day safari. You’re certain to see elephant families marching along. But we’ll also be looking for lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, leopard, ostrich, warthog, and others.
Toward the evening, the clouds covering Kilimanjaro’s peak may part, revealing its famous snow-capped summit.
You’ll spend the night at your choice of safari lodge or tented camp.
Day 2
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Being on safari, we’ll rise with the sun and head out for an early morning game drive. We’ll catch the first light as it breaks upon the plains and Mt. Kilimanjaro. This is a wonderful time to observe the first stirrings of wildlife.
This drive is followed by breakfast, enjoying the park’s rich ambiance. Then it’s time to pile back into the Jeep for more wildlife adventures.
The park is an active environment for many kinds of animals – besides the larger game, look for hyena, fox, jackal, monkey, and baboon.
Lunch is up next and perhaps some relaxing time at your accommodation. The afternoon is up to you – relax, go on safari, or you can take advantage of an optional visit to the local Maasai people. Their nearby village will give you an opportunity to meet them and see their ancient lifestyle up close.
Day 3
Amboseli National Park - Nairobi
265km, approx. 4hrs
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
This is our third and final safari day so let’s go for more wildlife viewing with an early game drive. If there are any animals we’ve missed this is a great time to track them as they enter into the new day.
We may also go to Observation Hill for inspiring views of the park. Don’t forget Amboseli is also home to a rich variety of birdlife in its marshes. Look for pelican, kingfish, egret, and heron.
You’ve probably worked up an appetite so let’s enjoy breakfast at your lodge or tented camp.
Now it’s time to head back to Nairobi but first, we’ll take a final game drive as we exit the park.
Relax on the easy drive as we exit Maasai country and perhaps reflect on the adventures of the last 3 days.
We’ll have you back in town by late afternoon and bring you to your hotel, the airport, or another place of your choosing.
