What’s Cool About the Masai Mara?
From the land to the wildlife, to the indigenous residents of these ancient hills, the Maasai people, everything about the Mara is bigger than life. All of Africa’s “Big Five” roam these savannahs – lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant.
Over 95 types of mammals and hundreds of species of birds, color this dense ecosystem, the richest in this part of Africa.
On your game drives, you’ll not only be looking for the many prides of lions that roam this great park, but also leopards, cheetah, hyena, and jackal.
But one of the most noteworthy spectacles of the Masai Mara is the incredible numbers of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelle flooding into the reserve in what is called, the “Great Migration” – a timeless trek of survival where these innumerable grazers herd en mass, searching for food and water.
Waiting for them on this endless cycle for survival are the park’s many predators – all the big cats, plus crocodiles down at the crossing at the Mara River. It’s a spectacle none who have seen it will ever forget.
You’ll have time to do so much during your stay at this world-famous reserve. Visit a local Maasai village and get to meet and learn from its people about their culture and lifestyle.

Day 1
Nairobi – Masai Mara
1 Hour Flight
Meals: Lunch & Dinner
9:00 am – Which are you more excited about – seeing the Masai Mara or your air journey there? It doesn’t matter, both will be remarkable. A driver from Aether safari collection will be by to bring you to convenient Wilson Airport.
Take off is at 10:30 and you’ll soon be enjoying your air safari, seeing Kenya’s colorful fields and forests from above. In less than two hours you’ll touchdown at an airstrip near the Masai Mara.
You’ll meet your driver/guide who will usher you to your private open-sided/open-top 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep, and you’ll head off to the park!
Greeting you, the Mara’s green rolling hills and savannahs, set off by Africa’s distinctive acacia trees are an arresting sight. You can go right on your first game drive, or relax and refresh at your accommodation. The choice here, as with everything for the next three days… is yours.
Either way, your afternoon will be spent getting to know the park with plenty of first wildlife sightings.
We’ll spend our first safari evening at your Mara lodge or tented camp.
Day 2
Full Day at Masai Mara
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
We’ll be up with the sun to appreciate the soft light and colors of the new day, when the wildlife ventures out, hungry and ready to explore. You’ll explore as well – discuss with your guide the different areas of the park and wildlife you’d like to track.
A key area of interest is the Mara River. This is the crossing site of the thousands of grazers during the season of the Great Migration (July – October). We’ll enjoy lunch here if you’d like and watch the wonder of the uncountable wildebeests, zebra, and gazelle storming into the park on their timeless quest for food and water.
Waiting in the river for these gentle grazers are numerous crocodiles and prowling the savannah are all manner of big cats – lions, leopards, cheetah, jackals, and more.
Take advantage of your time in the park with an optional visit to a nearby Maasai village. This is a great opportunity for a cultural moment to meet these indigenous people and learn about their lifestyle, their rituals… and perhaps purchase some of their colorful beaded handiwork.
For a Masai Mara experience, you’ll never forget take our optional sunrise hot air balloon safari over the park. Rising into the new day, you’ll sail with the currents, looking down upon the reserve, its fields, rivers, and forests. Be ready to take plenty of pictures!
Toward late afternoon we’ll head back to our Masai Mara accommodation but first, we’ll enjoy one of the park’s glorious sunsets.
Day 3
Masai Mara – Nairobi
2 Hour Flight
Meals: Breakfast & Lunch
Let’s enjoy our final safari morning with a game drive to our favorite spots in the park. Perhaps a final lion or leopard sighting is waiting for you. Or maybe you’ll spot a hyena, fox, eland, or topi.
Then we’ll enjoy a big safari breakfast before our drive back to the airstrip. You’ll lift off around 11:15 am for the scenic flight back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi, where one of our drivers will meet you.
